Most mornings, I opt for a smoothie and a cup of coffee…
I haven’t always been big on breakfast. I used to work a lot, a whole lot…waaaay too much actually, and I was typically out the door every morning with no time to think about eating. I had developed such a bad habit of consuming only coffee each day until noon that it was hard for me to think about putting food in my mouth before lunch time. About a year ago I decided to make some healthy changes to my morning routine that included fueling my body. The easiest way I’ve found to get some nutrients in me each morning is a tasty smoothie…and this is my favorite! I like green smoothies too and even an occasional berry smoothie, we experiment with all kinds of smoothies in our house…but nothing tops this one in my book!
This smoothie is a delicious sweet coffee treat! There’s no added sugar, it’s naturally sweetened by the banana. It has healthy carbs for energy, some protein from the nuts and flax seed and coffee flavor from the coffee of course…did I mention that I love coffee. I’m drinking coffee anyway each morning, why not add it to my smoothie?!?! This has me looking forward to breakfast!
If my cashew supply is on empty, which happens often, I make this with walnuts…it’s just as delicious. You can also use cacao nibs in place of the cocoa or cacao powder. Smoothies are so easy to make your own, add to it what you love!
